Sir C. V. Raman Auditorium, Department of Physics

Abstract This lecture will demonstrate the utility of tools of asymptotic analysis before one proceeds for detailed numerical analysis. This lecture will be presented at a level which will be understable to a cross-section of physicists, chemists, biologists, etc. Examples will be drawn from the speaker's own research.

The Speaker Dr. B. D. Kulkarni (Ph.D., Chemical Engineering, 1978) heads the National Chemical Laboratory's Chemical Engineering Division. His areas of research include chemical reaction engineering, mathematical modelling, optimisation and control, process design, fluidization, microemulsions/micelles. He has received numerous honours for his research contributions, including the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for Science & Technology: Engineering Sciences & Technology (1989), Herdillia Award for Excellence in Basic Resarch in Chemical Engineering (1988), Fellow of Third World Academy of Sciences(2002), ChemTech-CEW Award “Outstanding Contributor” (2000), and Best Scientist of the Year NCL Research Foundation (1992).
