and Department of Physics, Savitribai Phule Pune University.

Abstract This talk is a re-examination of some of the most basic notions of thermodynamics, namely, temperature, equipartition, specific heat, and degrees of freedom, in the context of finite-sized systems and clusters.

The Speaker Professor Jellinek (Ph.D., Weizmann Institute of Science, Israel) is a Senior Scientist and the Group Leader of the Cluster Studies Group at the Argonne National Laboratory, US. He carries out theoretical studies of metal cluster structure, phases and phase changes, cluster fragmentation, electronic properties, and the dynamics of reactions of clusters with molecules. The theorists and experimentalists work interactively to advance the understanding of clusters and cluster-molecule systems.
