The project deals with the applications of ab initio electronic structure methods for investigating the physics of nanostructures like quantum dots, wires and tubes. The quantum confinement effects like quantization of conductance, Coulomb blockade, localization, etc. will be studied. The project involves development of algorithms and codes on serial and parallel machines.
Masters degree in Physics with minimum 55% or equivalent grade (those who have appeared for their degree examination in 2004 are welcome to apply). Strong interest, motivation, enthusiasm, and the ability to learn new things as required. Familiarity with condensed matter and computational physics. Knowledge of a programming language suitable for scientific applications such as fortran or C.
The project is sponsored by the Indo-French Commission (DST). The French collaborator is Dr. Steve Blundell (CEA-Grenoble). The project is likely to commence by September 2004.
