Abstract This module will introduce outlier detection for multivariate data analysis. It is a primary preprocessing step in data mining and machine learning applications. Presence of outliers may adversely lead to model misspecification, biased parameter estimation and incorrect results. It is therefore important to identify them prior to modeling and analysis. Outlier detection methods can be classified as statistical, supervised, and unsupervised techniques. This module will cover basics of these methods along with some applications.
