Abstract | Flight Simulation for Satellite Launch Vehicles is an essential activity in the life cycle of any mission. It commences in the very preliminary stages of mission design, and continues till a few hours before the actual launch. The activity is carried out in different phases, starting with all-digital simulations to real-time simulations with the flight instruments. The flight environment modelled during simulation tests covers a large variety of disturbances ? from medium to large dispersions, to impossibly high disturbances ? primarily to test the operation of the flight software under all conditions, including failure conditions. An essential feature of the final phase of simulations is their operation in a real time environment, simulating the actual flight environment to a very large extent. The range of simulations carried out prior to a launch provides confidence that the flight software is free from design faults, and will operate as predicted. |
