DST SERB Postdoctoral Fellow, CMS-SPPU
Dr. Snehal Shekatkar holds a PhD in Physics from IISER, Pune. He is currently a DST SERB postdoctoral fellow at the CMS-SPPU. His professional field of specialization is network science, complex dynamical systems, and nonlinear dynamics. He also has an interest in science outreach and in explaining technical topics to lay audience, especially in Marathi, and has contributed articles to the problem-solving platform called Brilliant. |

| Abstract | Humans regularly interact with other humans for a variety of reasons. These interactions give rise to concepts like the family, friendships and acquaintances. Social networks formed from these interactions affect almost every human activity, and hence understanding their structure and dynamics is of paramount importance. The processes like wars, spreading of rumours and diseases, trades between the countries are just a few examples of such human activities. In spite of an intense study of social networks since last few decades by people from diverse fields, the problem of characterizing them has remained elusive. In this talk, I will introduce some basic ideas in this field and will try to explain where our ignorance lies. |
