Prof. Anil P. Gore, a distinguished statistician, is currently Vice President of Statistical Services at Cytel, India. Earlier, he was a professor at the Department of Statistics, Savitribai Phule Pune University for 28 years. He was the President of Indian Society for Probability and Statistics from 2006-08, and a member of the National Statistical Commission, Government of India, from 2010-12. He has also been a Member of the National Tiger Conservation Authority, Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India. His research interest is applied statistics. |

Abstract | This talk is about statistical design of experiments and applications. It opens with a fictional court case between two producers of detergents, and a how a new entrant tries to establish superiority of her product. Turning to real life, the speaker will discuss the problems of testing efficacy of cosmetics and, towards the end, touch upon medicine. Role of statistics is clearly spelt out. Technical and mathematical details are kept at a minimum. |
