Speaker	Priyadarshini Karve, Managing Director, Samuchit Enviro Tech डॉ. प्रियदर्शिनी कर्वे (पीएच्.डी. भौतिकशास्त्र) समुचित एन्व्हायरो टेक या सामाजिक व्यवसायाच्या कार्यकारी संचालक आहेत. त्या सिंबायोसिस आंतरराष्ट्रीयटिकाऊ विकास, दैनंदिन पदार्थविज्ञान, महा-इतिहास, इ. विषय शिकवतात. शैक्षणिक संदर्भ या विज्ञान व शिक्षणविषयक द्वैमासिकाच्या त्या सहसंपादकही आहेत. ग्रामीण ऊर्जा, शाश्वत शहरीकरण, इ. विषयांतील त्यांचे काम विविध सन्मान व पारितोषिकांनी गौरवले गेले आहे. Dr. Priyadarshini Karve (Ph.D. Physics) is Managing Director of Samuchit Enviro Tech, a social enterprise that promotes eco-friendly products and services. She teaches courses on Sustainable Development, Everyday Physics, Big History, etc., as visiting faculty at Symbiosis International University. She is also a co-editor of Shaikshanik Sandarbh, a Marathi bi-monthly on Science and Education. Her work in the fields of rural energy, sustainable urbanisation, etc., has been recognised through various honours and awards.

Abstract	Note: This colloquium will be in Marathi. जुन्या अंधश्रद्धांची मान्यता टिकवून ठेवण्यासाठी त्यांचे स्पष्टीकरण वैज्ञानिक संज्ञांचा चुकीचा वापर करून दिले जाते, तेव्हा छद्मविज्ञान निर्माण होते. अनेकदा विज्ञानाच्या अभ्यासातही चुकीची सिध्द झालेली गृहीतके धरून ठेवण्याच्या अट्टाहासातून छद्मविज्ञान निर्माण होते. वैज्ञानिक दृष्टिकोन शंकेखोरपणा शिकवतो व पडताळणी मागतो, आणि छद्मविज्ञान पडताळणीच्या कसोटीवर टिकून राहू शकत नाही. अंधश्रद्धा व उपयुक्त पारंपरिक ज्ञान यांमधला फरक समजून घेण्यासाठीही वैज्ञानिक दृष्टिकोनाचा वापर होतो. व्याख्यानात उदाहरणांद्वारे हे मुद्दे विस्तारित केले जातील. When scientific terms are used wrongly to give legitimacy to old superstitions, pseudoscience is born. Many times, the insistence on continuing to believe in discredited hypotheses, leads to pseudoscience in scientific studies too. Scientific temper teaches questioning and demands verification and pseudoscience cannot stand on tests of verification. Scientific temper is also useful in discerning between superstitions and useful traditional knowledge. The talk will elaborate on these issues with examples.
