Colloquium | An Overview of Deep Learning

Title An Overview of Deep Learning
Speaker Rahee Walambe, Symbiosis Institute of Technology, Pune.

Dr. Rahee Walambe has completed her PhD in 'Robotics and Artificial Intelligence' from Lancaster University. Her Ph.D. research was focused on integrating safety within the operation of the mobile robot. She was Head of Electrical Engineering Department at Universal College of Engineering, Pune. She was Principle Investigator for 3 years for project entitled ‘Cars that Drive and Park’ funded under the Women in Science (WOS-A) Fellowship awarded by Department of Science and Technology, Govt of India, India. She is currently working as a teaching and research faculty in (SIT) Dept of ENTC. Her work profile is divided into teaching UG, PG and PhD students as well as working on research projects in Deep Learning, Machine Learning, Robotics and AI.
Date & Time Saturday, 27 October 2018 | 10:00-11:30
Venue Kelkar Lab, CMS, SPPU
Abstract Machine learning is a field of computer science that uses statistical techniques to give computer systems the ability to "learn" (e.g.,progressively improve performance on a specific task) with data, without being explicitly programmed. In last decade, ML has seen unprecedented rise in popularity due to advent of Deep Learning Techniques. Deep learning also known as deep structured learning or hierarchical learning) is part of a broader family of machine learning methods based on learning data representations, as opposed to task-specific algorithms.in the first part of the session, basic concepts pertaining to ML and some mathematical analysis of Linear Regression will be discussed. A broad overview of Deep Learning Techniques (CNN, RNN etc) for various applications will be discussed in second half of the session.
