MTech programme in modeling & simulation

What is it?
A unique rigorous multidisciplinary broad-based 2-year programme in foundations of mathematical modeling, computation & simulation. Consists of core & elective courses and a full-semester internship.
Detailed Description

Eligibility
BE/BTech (any branch of engineering) OR MSc with valid GATE score, with mathematics background equivalent to Savitribai Phule Pune University Engineering Mathematics curricula.

Students who do not have adequate background in mathematics (e.g., those admitted directly into the second year of BE/BTech through the Diploma route) are likely to find this programme very difficult to cope with.

Selection via entrance test
Official University Notification for Admissions 2019-20

Section A: General knowledge / aptitude / logic / comprehension.
Section B: 20 GRE-style MCQs designed to test mathematics and computing abilities, approximately covering the Savitribai Phule Pune University Engineering Mathematics curricula.

Credit courses for campus students

Many of the courses from the Centre's academic programmes mentioned above are open to registered post-graduate students of Savitribai Phule Pune University campus departments under the University's choice-based credit system.

Timeline

Semesters 1 and 3: Mid-July (date may vary from year to year).
Semesters 2 and 4: First Monday of January.
Commencement dates for individual courses may vary.
Please be sure to contact the Centre well ahead in time!

Enrollment

Write to coordinator AT cms.unipune.ac.in, indicating (a) the course/s that you are interested in, and (b) your background relevant to the course/s that you are interested in.
You may need to undergo a test or an informal interview/counselling session to assess your background in the light of any pre-requisites for courses of your interest.
Enrollment will generally be on a first-come-first-served basis conditional upon this test/interview/councelling session.
The number of such seats is limited by the available infrastructure at the Centre, especially for courses with a substantial hands-on computing component.
The Centre may not be able to accomodate you in a course that has already begun.
Students wishing to enroll in our course/s need formal approval from (a) their parent department/school/centre, (b) the course instructor/teacher at CMS, and (c) Departmental Committee at CMS.
Fees will be charged as per University's prevailing norms/policies.
Decision authority on all credit-course matters is the CMS Departmental Committee.

PhD and MPhil programmes

Some of the Centre's faculty are recognized by the University as PhD guides in disciplines such as Physics and Scientific Computing. Admissions to these PhD programmes take place as per prevailing policies and procedures of the University. The Centre does not offer an MPhil programme.

Short-duration internships

Short-duration (2-6 months) nonpaid internships may be available with individual faculty at the Centre. If interested, please write to individual faculty of your interest. Please make sure to send your resume, a brief statement of purpose/interest, and proposed duration/dates of internship.
